Downton Burnsville, North Carolina is a wonderful place to visit and explore when you are visiting the Blue Ridge Mountains. The downtown area is filled with quaint little shops, restaurants, and attractions that will keep you entertained for hours.

From antique stores to art galleries, there is plenty to see and do in Downtown Burnsville.

Things to Do in Downtown Burnsville

FREE Historic Walking Tour

Start your time in downtown Burnsville with a FREE historic walking tour. The tour is guided by a local resident who will give you explain the significance of buildings and landmarks in the area, while also sharing local folklore!

Otway Burns Statue

During your tour, you will learn about Otway Burns, the town’s namesake. He was an American privateer during the War of 1812 and later became a North Carolina State Senator.

Walking Tours are given Sunday-Friday at 11 am in the spring & summer and 1 pm in the fall & winter.

Downtown Shopping & Cafes

Throughout downtown, you will find quaint boutiques featuring everything from toys to hand-made soaps.

Those hopping to do some antique shopping, will be glad to know that there ar plenty in the area and Hammond Antiques is right downtown.

Burnsville Ice Cream Shop

Along with shopping, visitors can grab a cup of coffee, lunch or an ice cream.

TOE River Arts Council

Toe River Arts Gallery

This small mountain town is all about the arts and while here, you really should visit the local art gallery.

Located on the second floor of a 100-year-old building on Main Street, visitors can find a rotating exhibit as well as a gift shop that features goods made by local artisans.

Another great thing about Downtown Burnsville is the street art.

Burnsville Wizard of Oz Mural

The area features a variety of vibrant and unique murals, which add to the beauty of the downtown area.

From abstract paintings to landscape scenes, these murals certainly add charm.

Burnsville Quilt Trail

You will find Quilt Blocks throughout Burnsville and this includes downtown.

These large wooden squares are patterned after the colorful squares which adorn traditional mountain quilts and are designed to represent the location they are found.

For example, the Times Journal has a clock that tells time.

Homeplace Brewery Company

Located on Main Street in downtown Burnsville, this is the place to go for a pint. You’ll find four flagship beers, a lineup of seasonal taps as well as a few ciders.

On any given night you will find food trucks and/ or live music. It is the best place to drink a beer and enjoy the fresh mountain air!
